Family Contact Centre

Supporting children, preserving relationships, and putting the child first.

Sheffield Children’s Family Contact Centre provides a safe, neutral and child-focused environment where children can spend time with parents or family members when they are unable to do so independently. In line with guidance and family law, Sheffield Children’s Centre contact centre exist to ensure that children are able to maintain safe and meaningful relationships with their family members following separation, conflict, or safeguarding concerns.

At Sheffield Children’s Centre Contact Centre, everything we do is guided by the best interests of the child, the principles of the Children Act, and the belief that parenting does not end when relationships change.

Our Services

We offer a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of children, families and professionals:

Blank
Supervised Contact
Supervised contact takes place when a court or professional has identified that a child requires a higher level of oversight to ensure their safety and wellbeing. A trained member of our team remains present throughout the session, observing and recording contact in line with court orders and professional requests. This allows children to spend time with a parent or family member in a structured, safe and supportive environment.
Family Time
Family time provides opportunities for children to spend quality time with parents or relatives in a supportive setting. Sessions are planned to be child-centred, age-appropriate and focused on building or maintaining positive relationships while ensuring clear boundaries and expectations are followed.
Virtual Contact
Where face-to-face contact is not possible or appropriate, we facilitate virtual contact sessions. These are managed by our team to ensure sessions are safe, structured and child-focused, enabling children to maintain relationships despite distance or other barriers.
Supported Handovers

Supported handovers help families manage the transition of children between parents or carers safely and calmly. Our team ensures that handovers are carried out with minimal conflict, reducing stress and anxiety for children and adults alike.

We have a range of services and accept professional and self-referrals.

Working with Courts and Professionals
We work closely with courts, solicitors, officers, guardians, local authorities, parents and extended family members. All services are delivered strictly in accordance with court orders, written agreements and professional instructions, ensuring clarity, consistency and accountability at every stage.
Managing Conflict, Confidentiality and the Voice of the Child

We understand that family conflict can be challenging and emotionally charged. Our experienced team is trained to manage conflict calmly and professionally, maintaining clear boundaries and promoting respectful communication at all times.

Confidentiality is upheld in line with legal and safeguarding requirements. Information is shared only when appropriate and necessary to protect children and comply with court or statutory duties.

Most importantly, we actively embed the voice of the child in our work. Children are listened to, respected and supported in ways that are appropriate to their age and understanding. Their feelings, wishes and experiences inform how contact is delivered and reviewed, ensuring their emotional wellbeing remains central. Parents are invited prior to their contacts commencing where we gather views and preferences. Our resident social worker and clinical team will prepare materials to support the family and child in welcoming them to our centre this may be via social stories or sensory stories.

Our Team

Our centre is staffed by a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated professionals who are friendly, approachable and non-judgemental. Every member of our team is committed to placing the child at the heart of their work.

We are proud to have a resident Social Worker on site. The Social Worker plays a vital role in:

  • Providing professional oversight and safeguarding guidance
  • Supporting complex family situations
  • Liaising with courts and other professionals
  • Advising on risk, child welfare and best practice
  • Ensuring all services remain child-focused and legally compliant

Our wider team has strong expertise in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and is supported by on-site professionals, including an Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Music Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist, enabling holistic support for children and families. Our team hold a minimum of a Level 5 in Special Educational Needs with our leads holding Postgraduate Certificates in Autism and neurodiversity.

Our Setting

Sheffield Children’s Centre Contact Centre offers a safe, secure and welcoming environment. Our contact rooms are thoughtfully designed, fully accessible and suitable for children and young people of all ages, from early years through to adolescence. Our rooms are carefully planned by our resident occupational therapist who has designed calming and safe areas to promote regulation and support children and adults who may require additional support. Information will be gathered via our referral forms and a family plan designed with the parents or with each parent separately and with professionals supporting the family. We have two carparks enabling us to manage conflict right from the start of your contact session.

In addition, we offer a Social Café, providing a relaxed and nurturing space where families can meet and have supervised contact in a more natural, everyday setting. The café environment helps reduce anxiety, supports positive interactions and allows families to connect in a way that feels normal and supportive.

Within the café we also offer:

  • A food bank
  • A clothing bank
  • A book bank
  • A toy bank

These resources help reduce financial pressure, promote dignity, and ensure children’s basic needs and play opportunities are met — supporting family stability during challenging times.
