Sheffield Children’s Centre is an awarding winning provision and remains an outstanding Ofsted provider. There is a long-standing senior management team who have led the provision for over 25 years. We offer outstanding childcare and education for children aged birth to 5 years.
Our team, led by qualified teachers with specialist qualifications in nursing, psychology, neurodiversity, and Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO), is dedicated to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which focuses on seven key areas of learning
- Communication and Language: Developing children’s abilities to express themselves and understand others.
- Physical Development: Encouraging gross and fine motor skills, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Helping children manage their feelings, understand appropriate behaviour in groups, and build relationships.
- Literacy: Fostering a love of reading and writing through phonics, reading, and writing activities.
- Mathematics: Developing understanding of numbers, shapes, space, and measures.
- Understanding the World: Exploring the world around them, including people, communities, and the environment.
- Expressive Arts and Design: Encouraging creativity through art, music, dance, and imaginative play.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is a statutory framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old in England. The EYFS framework outlines the seven areas of learning and development, which are interconnected and support each other. The framework emphasises the importance of a play-based approach to learning, where children learn through exploration, investigation, and discovery.
The Sheffield Children’s Centre Early Years Team’s commitment to working in partnership with various professionals ensures a holistic approach to childcare and education. This collaborative approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of each child’s needs and the development of individualized support plans. The use of the Famly App enhances communication and collaboration between the centre and parents/caregivers, ensuring they are actively involved in their child’s learning journey.
Our curriculum is tailored to meet the unique and diverse needs of every child, working in partnership with a range of healthcare and education professionals, local partners, and other specialists.
We utilise a range of parallel curriculums, including an interoceptive curriculum and our own curriculum that integrates therapy and education, ensuring every child’s needs are met. We are fortunate to have a number of outdoor playareas including a forest school, mindful area, performing arts and drama area, gardening and a sensory garden ensuring that our environment is enabling, reduces barriers to learning, enables access and promotes physical development, regulation and learning in nature.
Our highly skilled clinical and educational teamwork parallel to ensure special educational needs and disabilities are promptly recognises, a graduated approach actioned and reinforces the code of practice to ensure continuous support, adaptations and enablement is available. Children are allocated a specialised and qualified SENCO to support them throughout their time with us and during transitions. We work closely with the local authority to ensure all children’s needs are recognised and met. Our work around special educational needs and disabilities has been highly praised.

In addition to our commitment to quality, we also have higher staffing ratios than what is required by law. Alongside our Early Years Practitioners who hold a level 3 and above, we also employ Early Years Teachers who bring a wealth of early years development knowledge and experience. Our Early years Teachers lead our class delivery and oversee all planning, staff training and daily care delivery.
We encourage all classrooms to spend time outdoors daily and internal and external visits are actively promoted. Children start their day with gentle morning mindful exercises leading onto an exciting day of fun and learning. Whilst we are child led we have a large offering of engaging activities on offer including sing and sign, dance and movement, drama and performing arts, baby massage, yoga, sports including tennis, football and rugby. Schools have reported that children transitioning to them from our setting are well regulated, have excellent social skills, confidence, and high levels of self-esteem. We embed a core emotional literacy and carefully designed speech and language programme to further excel our children’s ability leveLS.
Our qualified teacher and Montessori teacher work together to deliver highly sought after phonics sessions for those children whose parents and the child wish to access such sessions prior to transitioning to school.
Sheffield Children’s Centre offer a range of fun and engaging language lessons including Greek, Spanish, Italian and Hindi. These are currently free for childen attending our provision and are charged at £9.00 per lesson for childen who wish to attend learn a new langauge but do not attend our provision.

Payment Methods
We accept payment by bank transfer/direct debit/cash/cheque/voucher & tax free childcare.
Additional charges
The expense of providing childcare to parents and children is much higher than the funding we receive from the Government. As a not for profit organisation our other services allow us to not charge parents for food. All children attending our provision for a full day will receive breakfast, healthy snacks and a hot dinner as part of their session. Alongside this we provide food and clothing banks for those families in need.
